What’s New Inside Microsoft Office 2010
The first public beta of Microsoft Office 2010 (v. 14.0.4536.1000) is now available for download on both MSDN and Technet.
Microsoft Office 2010 – What’s New
Here’s a quick visual guide to some of the new features of Microsoft Office 2010 that you’re likely to find useful once you get access to the software.#1. Save Office Documents to the Cloud
SkyDrive provides 25 GB of free online storage and, since the service is integrated with Office Web Apps, you can view and edit these documents anywhere in the web browser without requiring Microsoft Office (even on a Mac).

#2. Embed Web Videos in your Presentations
With Office 2010, you can easily embed video clips from the Internet into your PowerPoint presentations just the way you embed Flash videos in regular web pages. Just copy the embed code from YouTube (or any other video sharing site) and paste it anywhere on the slide.

#3. Quick Steps in Outlook
Gmail includes a useful feature called Send and Archive that performs multiple tasks. When you click this button, it will first send the reply and then archives the thread with one click. With the new Quick Steps feature in Outlook, you can create a sequence of commands (Send & Archive is just one example) and apply them to any Outlook item with a click. For instance, here’s a quick step for "Send and Delete" which would delete the email from your inbox after you’ve replied.

#4. Built-in PDF Writer
All Office 2010 programs include a built-in PDF writer to help you save documents into the PDF format with a click. Earlier, you had to download an add-on separately but now PDF support is native. With Office 2010, Microsoft has completely revamped the print dialog and it’s a tremendous improvement. For instance, you can tweak printer settings (like page margins, etc.) and preview the changes side-by-side.

#6. Broadcast Slideshows within PowerPoint
This is probably my favorite new feature of PowerPoint 2010. You can deliver live presentationsover the web from within PowerPoint and anyone in the world can view your presentation using a web browser. It just works.

#7. Video Editing meets PowerPoint
Do you want to trim some parts of a video clip before using it in your presentation? Or do you want to apply professional styles to a video (like reflection coupled with 3D rotation) so that your audience stay glued longer? Well, that’s easy because PowerPoint 2010 now includes some very powerful video editing features.#8. Distribute your slides as video
PowerPoint 2010 can convert your presentation into a video file that you may upload on to YouTube or distribute on a portable media player like the iPod. The video conversion happens in the background so you can continue using PowerPoint while the video is being created.
All Office 2010 programs now include a screen clipping utility to help you quickly capture any area of the desktop screen. The tool will automatically take screenshots of all open applications on your desktop (that are not in minimized state) and you can insert them directly into your document or presentation.

#10. Outlook gets social
When you open an email message inside Outlook 2010, it will show you related information such as email attachments, pictures, meeting requests and all previous email messages that you may have exchanged with that person (something like Xobni).Important: Before installing Office 2010
1. If you are installing Office 2010 beta for the first time, the default settings will upgrade your existing copy of Microsoft Office. You can however customize this setting and install Office 2010 alongside an older version of Office.2. If you already have Office 2010 Technical Preview on your computer, make sure you completely uninstall this edition before attempting to installing Office 14 beta. In case you still have trouble installing Office, use the cleanup utility to remove all traces of the previous version of Office from your system.
Pull Images from any Web Page and Turn Them Into a Nice Photo Collage Online
That was simple. I did a simple search for "obama" on Google Images and then copied the search URL into shapecollage.com. Within seconds, the tool pulled all the photographs of Obama found on Google Images and turned them into a nice photo collage.
The Shape Collage Online web application is a complement to the Shape Collage desktop software, which includes additional features including the ability to generate high resolution collages.

Open source Adobe Reader alternative Sumatra PDF hits version 1.0

Adobe has done a lot to improve Reader in recent versions. We will be more than happy to run an open source alternative, however. Sumatra PDF is ridiculously small (a 1.2Mb download), lightweight, and handles the PDFs I throw at it without skipping a beat. Today, Sumatra has finally hit version 1.0. Sumatra's a pretty bare-bones application. What the new update boils down to is better compatibility, bug fixes, and performance tweaks.
Installed, Sumatra barely makes a dent in your drive space (not that you're counting at a few cents per gig), and it's very light on memory usage as well. The 277-page ebook can be opened using just under 20Mb.
There's also a portable version available - an excellent way to make sure you've got a slim, speedy PDF reader with you wherever you take your flash drive. Both the installer and zip file are available for download from the author's site.

A Very good online text editor - SimpleText.ws

SimpleText.ws is an open-source, very light text editing environment that allows you to create and manage documents in a web service, and access them anywhere. It uses Google for authentication, so if you already have a Google account, signing in is as simple as clicking the Sign In link.
There is also a public API available for SimpleText.ws, which means that developers can write applications that synchronize with it. Currently there is only one, but it's a good one: Hog Bay Software's WriteRoom for iPhone.
Once again, Microsoft puts a download page live with no downloads to back it up

Head over to the Office beta download page, and you'll see three links to chose from. Pick any one you like. The result's the same, a redirect to a page that says 'Hey, Office 2010 beta is coming soon!' I guess that's fine, right? I mean, it's not like anyone clicking a download button would expect 1) direct access to a download or 2) a form they can fill out to get at the files.
Now, I don't run a big fancy website like Microsoft's, but is it really that hard to keep pages like this offline until the files are available?
The good news in this is that yes, the public beta is coming soon. It'd be nice if that landing page actually had 'coming soon' buttons instead of shiny green 'download' buttons. That seems like a distinction which is important to make.
As a bonus, it might save your servers having to deal with 12,000,000 page refresh requests.

Make Yourself Eligible for an Office 2010 Starter Beta [Office 2010]
Microsoft Office 2010 will offer a free, ad-supported 'Starter' edition, in addition to its regular, rather pricey offerings. Beta invites are already going out, and you can increase your chances at a spot by filling out a quick online survey.
By quick, we mean three minutes or less. The survey asks what type of computers you use at home, what kind of internet connection you have, and whether you've used Office in the past six months. Intriguingly, it also asks if you've used Google Docs or OpenOffice in the same time period.
Filling out the survey won't guarantee a place in the 2010 Starter beta program, but it certainly won't hurt, if you're itching for a chance to give it a go
Add URL tooltips to Firefox with a handy add-on

That doesn't mean I want to miss out on the functions the status bar provides - like displaying the destination of links I hover over.
The URL Tooltip addon offers a simple remedy for that. Once installed, you'll see a tooltip balloon whenever you park your pointer on a link. And never mind the status bar - it's nice to see the link appear in the spot you're already looking at.
For those of you running a netbook, this is a great little add-on to make part of your add-on arsenal.
And no, I did not just buy a Maximus keyboard - just in case you were wondering...

Google's SPDY protocol will speed up the web - and Chrome OS, too
'We started working on SPDY while exploring ways to optimize the way browsers and servers communicate,' says the official blog post. It continues, 'We want to continue building on the web's tradition of experimentation and optimization, to further support the evolution of websites and browsers.'
It's not all about altruism, of course. Improvements like those Google is seeking with SPDY, the Go! programming language, and Native Client will all greatly benefit the Chrome browser and Chrome OS. After all, an OS which relies heavily on the cloud for access apps and data will certainly perform better with an improved protocol powering the client and server. It's probably a safe bet that Google would roll SPDY on their own servers early on to give apps like Google Docs and Picasa Web a performance boost on the Google platform.
Whatever the motivation, I'm all for more speed on the web. My ISP is obviously in no hurry to improve things on that front, so if Google can pull off the estimated 55% performance gain then I'm all for it. You go, Google!

Go, Google's Programming Language
"Some smart Google engineers decided that it's time to address the limitations of C and C++ by designing a new programming language: Go.
Go was born out of frustration with existing languages and environments for systems programming. Programming had become too difficult and the choice of languages was partly to blame. One had to choose either efficient compilation, efficient execution, or ease of programming; all three were not available in the same mainstream language. Programmers who could were choosing ease over safety and efficiency by moving to dynamically typed languages such as Python and JavaScript rather than C++ or, to a lesser extent, Java.
Go is an attempt to combine the ease of programming of an interpreted, dynamically typed language with the efficiency and safety of a statically typed, compiled language. It also aims to be modern, with support for networked and multicore computing. Finally, it is intended to be fast: it should take at most a few seconds to build a large executable on a single computer. To meet these goals required addressing a number of linguistic issues: an expressive but lightweight type system; concurrency and garbage collection; rigid dependency specification; and so on. These cannot be addressed well by libraries or tools; a new language was called for. [Language design FAQ]
Here's a Go program that outputs 'Hello, World!':

* Introduction of App Tabs
* Expanded Home Tab Functionality
* Hiding Bookmarks Bar
* Profile Stuff

These directions are still in early brainstorming and proposal phase, and broader suggestions and ideation is welcome
Google Wave rocks with notches
Wave will be good for people, who runs many thread of mails. There wont be any difference if mails are one to one. If there are active people in a chain of mail, Wave can show it a lot better.
To learn all about Wave, watch this video
this video is of 1Hr 20 mins in duration,
If you cant spare (even bare :P) that much time,
watch the below short form of it (this is just 7mins).
Wave is spreading at a great pace, there are already apps created for iPhone and other smart phones to access Wave. I have also seen a Wave notifier application for desktop which notifies new waves. And the most surprising, amazing and funniest is Gina Trapani from LifeHacker
came up with a Complete Guide to Google Wave. This book will tell u all about a Wave.
Hope this Wave will be available to all my friends, coz unlike a mail id the other guy to whom u wish to communicate should have a Wave too :(
And you can all wave me @ mmsreedhar@googlewave.com and thanks to Bhellsun for sparing me a invitation.
Droid Does... only have 256MB of storage for apps

The Droid reportedly only packs a 512MB ROM (that's the built-in memory), of which only half is allocated for apps. There are some iPhone games that couldn't even fit in that teeny-weeny storage space! But at least it's expandable, right? Um, nope. Google doesn't support installing apps to the SD cards that Motorola relies on, so developers are pretty limited in terms of file sizes for their Android 2.0 software.
The Droid may have a solid CPU and GPU for gaming, but games that take full advantage of that hardware are likely to need 100 megabytes or more of storage space. That's going to make things pretty tough until Android 2.0 comes to a device with a lot more pre-installed flash memory.

Efforts to create magazine front page...
I was amazed to see this video.. I changed my opinion after seeing this video
The kind of care and efforts they have taken to design the front page of the magazine.
Couldn'd imagine the efforts put in a magazine.

World's worst digital TV customer service -AIRTEL
It was going very fine until 6 months from the day i took the service. Time has come to recharge and their problem started.
They were not allowing to change the package and in case if you want to change the package then you need to take package for one year... What is the bluddy idiotic rule is this???
So we have decided to continue on the same package even though it was costing us around 12Rs per day. We would have been more happy if the service continued as we mentally decided to pay Rs 12 Per day... and we have recharged with Rs 2700!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But the problem started when they have activated (without any notice from our side) some useless package for 12 months which made our balance to go into negative and with that they have disconnected our services and its been four days and i have called customer care for 6 times. Every time i call them the first dialogue i will get after greetings from the customer rep is "SIR SYSTEM IS DOWN CALL US AFTER 15Mins" what the hell customer care is doing when the system is down???? Believe me then have told me this when i called all the six time. When i escalated to Manager system started working, he will provide all the information. What's happening?????
Stay away from DIGITAL TV... CABLE OPERATOR IS THE BEST ONE.....
DONT GET USED TO DIGITAL TV IT WILL GIVE YOU NOTHING BUT SLEEPLESS NIGHTS........
Google Talk to Add Video Conferencing
SFGate reports that Google will improve the service significantly in the coming months.
Gmail's voice and video chats are now limited to one-to-one communications, but Google wants to broaden that capability to more than two participants and make it more robust all around for Apps.
'This [current Gmail capability] is the first step in a much broader set of features we hope to roll out over the next six to 12 months around video [and voice] chat capabilities,' said Rishi Chandra, a Google Apps product manager. 'It's a great opportunity for us to push that space along.'
It's not clear whether Google plans to integrate Marratech's video conferencing software, acquired in 2007.
Other features that will be added to Google's services: 'intelligent meeting scheduling in Google calendar', 'intelligent workflow in the [Google Docs] applications', 'lots of new functionality being developed especially around formatting' in Google Docs.
